🕊️ Learning About Sikhism 🌈
Today we learned about the leadership and teachings of Guru Nanak and Guru Gobind Singh — two inspirational figures in Sikhism.
Sikhism (or Sikhi) is a monotheistic religion, meaning Sikhs believe in one God. Guru Nanak, the first Sikh Guru and founder of Sikhism, taught people to pray by meditating on God’s name, singing hymns (Gurbani), and reciting prayers from the holy book, the Guru Granth Sahib.
Learning about different religions helps us develop respect, tolerance, and global understanding, while increasing our cultural awareness. 🌍💫
Our pupils reflected on their learning:
“It’s really interesting to learn about different religions and traditions.” – Year 4 pupil
“Sikhs are taught to work hard, live honestly, and share with others.” – Year 4 pupil

🌈 Celebrating Different Religions in Year 2 🕊️
Today, Year 2 explored Sikhism as part of our learning about different faiths. We learned about the Gurdwara, the Sikh place of worship, and the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book. The children discussed how Sikhs show respect for their holy book and their place of worship.
Together, we followed step-by-step instructions to draw our own beautiful pictures of a Gurdwara. 🕌✏️
One pupil shared,
“I liked learning about the Holy Book, the Guru Granth Sahib.”
We’re so proud of how our children show curiosity, respect, and appreciation for different faiths and beliefs. 💛

At St Mary's School, we believe in fostering understanding and respect for all cultures and traditions. Recently, our students took a wonderful journey into learning about Ramadan, the holy month of fasting, prayer, and reflection for millions around the world. 🌙
