Developing excellent religious literacy is a particular priority at St Mary’s.

Children are explicitly taught the vocabulary they need to talk confidently about Scripture, theology, liturgy and Catholic teaching. Key vocabulary is revisited through lessons, working walls, discussion, questioning and retrieval activities.

As children progress through the school, we expect them increasingly to explain rather than simply describe, make connections between different aspects of their learning and use theological vocabulary accurately and confidently.

This builds upon an existing strength identified at our previous Catholic Schools Inspection, when inspectors recognised pupils' religious literacy as a significant strength of St Mary’s.
