RSE

At St Mary's, the curriculum encompasses personal, social, health and relationships education, E-Safety, and relationships and sex education.

We have created a bespoke RSE curriculum for our children.

  • We follow the Life to the Full programme to support teaching and learning in this subject. Life to the Full is a Scheme of Work in Relationships and Health Education (RSE) for Catholic primary schools which embraces and fulfills the statutory curriculum. Taught with a spiral approach to learning, in which pupils will revisit the same topics at an age-appropriate stage through their school life. The entire teaching is underpinned with a religious understanding that our deepest identity is as a child of God – created chosen and loved by God.
  • To ensure a comprehensive coverage of E-Safety, preparing our children for the digital world, we are guided by Education for a Connected World.
  • To supplement our RSE curriculum, selected children follow a programme of workshops delivered by our school counsellor (creative therapist.) Workshops are in response to universal trends; these equip the children with life skills and support them to know how and when to seek help.

Mental Health and Wellbeing workshops

The Year 6 children were able to participate in a series of fun and interactive workshops, where the facilitators helped to promote mental health awareness and supported the children to challenge stigma. The Learn Well Programme helped to promote wellbeing strategies and coping skills, raised the children's awareness of the mental health support options available to them, and empowered them to develop resilience.

The workshops involved the following:

  • Mental Health Awareness
  •  Stress and Building Resilience
  • The Five Ways to Wellbeing
  • Coping with Change
  • Mindfulness
  • Digital Wellbeing
